An Infinity of Uniquenesses

I found an old drawing I did in 2008. It is a quote Barbara Blackman (one of Australia’s great figures in the world of the arts) made while she was being interviewed.

When asked about God, Barbaras' reply was:

"I think I know what God is, in fact, I know I know God. Everything innature and in the universe is an infinity of uniquenesses – No two leaves arethe same, no two people are the same – an infinity of uniquenesses. And theorigin and source of this is what is conveniently called God. And the whole worldand everything in it is God making himself known to himself, through love."

I'm not religious, but I liked this :)

The photo is not too good, I took it in the afternoon with the sun shining on it. Unfortunately it doesn't capture the perfect day... sunshine, music and cold beverage I was enjoying while doing it!

The wall that the mural is on is next to an outdoor bath in a lovely plant-filled courtyard :)

I came across this great tutorial on Design Sponge on how to generate repeat patterns. I have tried a few methods which I have not been happy with, so thanks little bird big city for letting me know about this :)

So now I have a new obsession, something to help me create the wallpaper and fabrics I have been dreaming of making, here is a pattern I made using one of my drawings...

Being Navigator

I was very happy to find out this morning that the little painting I submitted to the Wall of Contemporary Art (WoCA) Eco Art Competition had been selected as the winning entry!

The Eco Shop in the Fremantle Markets has the smallest gallery space in Fremantle - the WoCA. It is currently hosting a 10 round art competition with some fantastic prizes to be won. The theme for Round 1 was Water, and I named this painting "being navigator".

This mural was painted on the wall of the Darkroom for a show Jodee held in November. She brought her Chimera show to Bunbury, a highlight for arts in the Southwest of Australia!

The Australian Cancer Council holds an Annual Awards Exhibition, which features art created by people affected by Cancer. This years theme is "I Am" and as well as visual art, there is poetry, film and writing categories which all have beautiful work to see. The exhibitions are currently held in Melbourne and surrounding areas.

I submitted a piece this year in honour of my wonderful Dad, who was always very supportive of my art. I was pleased to find out today that somebody has bought it :)

Brooch Swap

I have made something I have never made before, but enjoyed the challenge, it is a brooch for the Flower Press Brooch Swap. I used transfer paper to put one of my drawings onto fabric, which I then sewed onto a backing and filled with stuffing. The process is here. I am out of practice with my sewing skills, but it was a nice way to make use of some of my artwork. This will be making its way to New Zealand!

This print was recently bought by a lovely person in New South Wales. It is wonderful to think that something I made can be enjoyed in a place I will never go by people I will never meet :)

When time permits, I will continue adding items to my shop. I currently have a limited amount of prints for sale on etsy, but all of my work can also be purchased directly from me as a print which is very affordable - just email me anytime if you would like to choose something not listed. My flickr site or facebook page displays all of my work available for purchase as prints.

My Recycling Project

These pieces of cardboard are from a huge pile of boxes I have not been able to fit into the bin. So now I am going to turn them into little paintings. This time I have collaged pages from old maps and magazines onto them, can't wait to see how they turn out!

I found a pile of magazines from the 1960's at an opshop - and it's fascinating reading! I was surprised at the obsession for women to be thin - nothing has changed. This page is from a 1966 New Idea, I can't work out how these things are supposed make you lose weight!?
